The First Arena (which opened in 2000 as the Coach USA Center until a name change in 2003) is a regional convention and sports and recreation center. Home of the Elmira Jackals United Hockey League Hockey team, the First Arena hosts hockey games, regional college and high school basketball games, concerts, conventions, expositions, and a wide variety of family entertainment. Recent events have included concerts by Brad Paisley, Staind with Sevendust, Bob Dylan, and Chicago, the Circus, the Harlem The arena hosts family entertainment like the Circus, the Harlem Globetrotters, and Ice CapadesGlobetrotters, Wine on Ice, Monster Trucks, and WWE Wrestling.

The First Arena facility consists of two ice arenas, the Main Arena and the Recreational Rink. Public Ice Skating takes place on the Recreational Rink on a weekly basis. A variety of other classes, clinics, and programs for hockey and skating are also available. The Arena includes the Jackals Den Restaurant, open before events, and a Rico's Pizzeria located in the Recreational Rink. The First Arena can be reserved for receptions and other special events including catering upon request.

The First Arena is centrally located in Downtown Elmira at the corner of North Main and Gray Street, a block from the Centertown Parking Garage. Parking is available on surrounding city streets or in the parking garage for $2.00 per event or performance.

Clemens Center

The Clemens Center is the region's premiere performing arts center. Recently renovated in 1999, the Clemens Center presents drama, music, and dance throughout the year. The Clemens Center's full calendar of events features National Broadway Musical Tours, National Dance Companies, Popular Stars, Children's Theater, Symphony Orchestras, several local performance companies, and much more. Recent events at the Clemens Center have included hit Broadway musicals Chicago, Rent, and Cats, performances by the Righteous Brothers, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Michael Bolton, and special events such as Sesame Street Live and Riverdance.

The Clemens Center is composed of the Powers Theater stage and auditorium hall seating 1,600 people and the Mandeville Hall, a more intimate black box theater seating 200 people. It is centrally located in Downtown Elmira at the corner of Clemens Center Parkway and Gray Street, adjacent to the Centertown Parking Garage. Parking is available on surrounding city streets or in the parking garage for $2.00 per event or performance.

The Elmira College Theater Department produces several shows throughout the year by various playwrights and of various genres. Elmira College also has a unique program called Encore. Through the Encore program, the college brings in performers from a wide-range of musical and cultural backgrounds. Encore events are open to the public and you can find them on the Community Calendar.

Elmira Little Theatre is a nonprofit and volunteer-driven community theatre that has been performing in the Southern Tier since the 1940s. As the resident company of the Clemens Center, ELT produces several shows each year. ELT is composed of housewives and husbands, doctors and lawyers, carpenters and plumbers, teachers and ministers. The one thing ELT members have in common is the love for theatre. Members volunteer time, talent, and energy in anticipation for that exciting, terrifying, and thrilling moment when the audience quiets and it’s "lights up."

The Tags Summer Stage hosts several concerts throughout the summer months in an outdoor venue that accommodates over 5,000 people. The Summer Stage hosted acts such as Hootie and the Blowfish, ZZ Top, Jethro Tull, Melissa Etheridge, and BB King during the 2003 season. Tags also hosts several Comedy Nights and other events throughout the season.

Valley Folk is the local folk music organization hosting monthly concerts October through May plus jam sessions or sing-arounds and other related activities such as the occasional potluck supper. Concerts are held at Rural Research Laboratories at 254 Baldwin Street in Downtown Elmira.
