The City of Elmira’s compost facility is now open with limited hours as follows:

            Monday – Friday from 5pm until sunset

            Holidays and weekends from sunrise to sunset

For the safety of the public, the facility will remain closed on weekdays from sunrise until 5pm. This will allow time for tub-grinding of the brush picked up from the storm.

As a reminder, plastic bags are not allowed and must be emptied of their contents. A dumpster is at the site for empty plastic bags. Paper bags are allowed and do not need to be emptied. Please do not leave garbage of any kind as that is considered illegal dumping. The composting site is intended only for yard waste such as grass clippings, leaves, shrubs and other plant material. Keep in mind the compost facility is monitored.
