»Show Map of the Second District
Elmira is a beautiful place to live, with all of the hills surrounding us, we have a beautiful show every fall. We can enjoy a picnic at Harris Hill and observe gliders taking off and landing. We have wonderful schools, an exceptional art museum and a wonderful historical museum. The Clemens Center and the First Arena are top-notch facilities like nothing else in our region. I would love to see the retail area return to the center of our community as it was when I was growing up and I am excited about the future use of the Chemung River.
The Second District is made up of individual homes, apartment complexes, and businesses. I have two of the major manufacturing companies in my district. With such a diverse collection of people and businesses, I will serve many persons: children, teenagers, elderly, business-owners, and workers. We have many cultural centers in the second district and we have the historical preservation of homes in the Near Westside Neighborhood Historical District.
When I volunteer, I want to do the best I can, therefore I limit myself to only about three organizations to serve. At present I am a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Parish Council as chairperson of our sunshine committee and serve communion on a monthly basis. On Sunday and Monday, I volunteer at St. Joseph's hospital and it will be my pleasure to serve as a councilmember for the City of Elmira.
I hope to use this time to become more interactive with the residents of the Second District as well as the business owners. I would like to establish a committee to advise me and help me to make important decisions about the future of our City. Working with all of you to solve our problems is the way to get things done.
Carol has lived in the City of Elmira for all of her life and in the Second District for more than 45 years. Her interest in city government began in 1970 and has continued ever since. She follows in the footsteps of her great-great uncles, Adam Jr. and Henry, who served the City of Elmira on the Common Council in the early 1900's. She has five children: Catherine, Bob Jr., Martin, Peter, and Christopher. She also has seven grandchildren. She has worked for Norwalk Trucklines and has served as secretary/bookkeeper for the Eastside Neighborhood Action Committee. She also serves as an afterschool aide at Holy Family Catholic Primary School. She enjoys reading, crafting, and rooting for the Carolina Panthers during football season, but most enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.
