My priority is to maintain and improve the quality of life in our neighborhoods. Citizens should expect effective code enforcement, adequate street repair and maintenance, a sound public safety system, and efficient government operation. I believe in community service and want to be involved in making our neighborhoods in Elmira a better place to live.
I am a retired American History and Government teacher from Southside High School and a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. I received a BA in 1968 and my MA in 1973 from SUNY Albany. I have served as a Councilman from 1980 to 1987, Mayor of Elmira from 1988 to 1993, and again as Councilman from 1998 to the present day. I serve as a member on the Board of Directors of the Southside Community Center, am a past president of the Elmira Little Theatre, and was the Chairman of the City of Elmira Youth Advisory Board. In 1985, I received the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce Community Builder Award. I served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971 and I am a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, and the Chemung County Historical Society.
Professional management of City Government, a stable tax rate, improved quality of life, continued commercial development, attention to street repair and maintenance, and the creation of a branch campus of Corning Community College are positive goals we should all work to achieve.
