Accountant

The City of Elmira is currently recruiting for a full-time Accountant to work in the Chamberlain's Department.  Duties include, but not limited to, keeping accounts for the City as prescribed by the NYS Department of Audit and control applicable local finance laws.  Work involves performing professional accounting work including the maintenance of accounting records, preparation of reports and the establishment of new accounts systems.

A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Economics or related filed is preferred or an Associate Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or related field, including 12 semester credit hours in accounting and two (2) years experience in professional accounting or financial auditing.  Governmental experience is preferred.

School Crossing Guard

The City of Elmira is currently recruiting on call School Crossing Guards. This responsible position calls for the exercise of considerable vigilance in directing traffic for the protection of children going to and from school. Work is performed independently with only occasional direction from a supervisor.

Assistant Code Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector

The City of Elmira is currently recruiting for a full-time Assistant Code Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector.  The work involves responsibility for enforcement of building, fire, zoning and other similar ordinances in the City.  Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Code Inspection Services. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Either:

 

A)    Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one

accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant an Associate’s

Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Science, Fire Protection

Technology or related; or

 

B)    Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in building construction work, building inspection, building maintenance, firefighting or fire inspection; or

 

C)    Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma

and possession of the Basic Code Enforcement Training Certification from

New York State Division of Building Codes and Standards.
