The Engineering Division provides a wide range of engineering services to the Department of Public Works and other city departments, as well as the general public. The staff is comprised of three professional and technical members and one or more student interns. Staff levels are increased during the construction season to accommodate a greater workload. The staff works under the supervision of the City Engineer or Director of Public Works.

  • Traffic and parking analysis, including traffic modeling
  • Traffic Coordinating Board
  • Location of City and Sewer District owned underground utilities
  • Liaison to other agencies

Engineering services are provided for Department of Public Works support, Interdepartmental support and as a Liaison to local, county, and state agencies.

Support for Public Works includes, but is not limited to, design for rehabilitation, reconstruction and restoration of streets, design and support for buildings and facilities, sanitary and storm sewer design stormwater regulation, the design of park and sports facilities, traffic signal optimization, parking lot design, trail design, consultant management, and project management. The Engineering Division works directly with other Department and Division heads in the City. Engineering services provided to other city departments include, but are not limited to site plan review, locating property lines, mapping, Geographic Information Systems analysis, and the maintenance of the Official Zoning Map. The Senior Engineer also serves as a member of the Traffic Coordinating Board.

In addition to conventional engineering services the Engineering Division maintains the city's map files and Geographic Information System, issues permits for use of city right-of-way, provides support for snow removal, provides information on city properties, and annually inspects and executes the City's various sidewalk and other programs.

The Engineering Division also provides a Streetwork Submission Site to contractors.  This site notifies the media, emergency services, and Public Works of pending street closures or work which otherwise impedes traffic.  It does not provide permission to close the street.  Contractors wishing to close a City street for any period of time must obtain permission from the Traffic Coordinating Board. The Engineering Division utilizes a Topcon Total Station survey instrument and operates in an AutoCAD environment.
