The Elmira Police Department is currently recruiting for a part-time Kennel Worker in the Animal Control Department. Daily duties include cleaning and maintaining the Animal Control Shelter, meeting with the public, answering the phone, and additional duties as assigned.

Candidate is required to have graduate from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.

ASSISTANT CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/BUILDING INSPECTOR

CODE DEPARTMENT

The City of Elmira is currently accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer.  This position responsibility for securing compliance with the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and local code requirement.  Also responsible for condemnation and demolition of structures and retains complete authority to order, in writing, the remedying of any condition found to exist in, on or about any structure or property in violation of the Code and to issue appearance tickets for such violations.

 

Minimum qualifications include either graduation from an accredited college or university or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant an Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Science or related; or graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in building construction work; or graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and possession of the Basic Code Enforcement Training Certification from the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

There will be a minimum probationary period of not less than 8 weeks up to 52 weeks. In addition, applicant must take a Civil Service test and score in the top three (3).

The Community Development Department/Elmira Urban Renewal Agency, is currently recruiting for a full-time Grant Administrator.  Duties include, but not limited to, overseeing subgrantees for public service programs, reviews grant application, manages the Home-Repair Program and works on the First-Time Homebuyer Program for the City of Elmira.  This individual will also receive inquires, referrals and applications and shall be responsible for intake and approval, eligibility verification of the grant application.

 

Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or ones accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s Degree; or graduation from High School and any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities including at least five (5) years in a similar capacity.  Excellent benefit package including health insurance, paid sick, vacation and personal time, NYS Retirement System, etc.
