Blandford Park



Park Description
Located at Harriet Street and Market Street, Blandford Park is a quiet neighborhood park where kids can play on the playground equipment, cool off under the water sprayer, or relax under the pavilion.

Blandford Park is named in appreciation of Donald Blandford and to recognize his contributions to the community. He died in December of 2006 at the age of 84.

Blandford was a past president of the NAACP and past city Democratic Committee chairman. He served on the boards and committees of many organizations, including the Boy Scouts, United Fund and Chemung County Human Relations Board. He was also a staunch supporter of the Red Cross and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

A World War II veteran, Blandford also was a member of the Catholic War Vets, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Queen City Lodge Post 174 IBPOE.
